Show of hands! How many of you have already converted your home into a fall festival and how many are still trying to hold onto the last little bit of summer? I'm stuck in between those two states. I went as far as getting my fall decorations out of storage, but the hot temperatures have scorched my fall decorating for now. I'll gradually start trickling in my fall decor throughout our home like with these wood pumpkins made from 4x4s.

Like every other wood worker, I have a huge stash of scrap wood in our shop. I'm the world's worst at throwing away pieces of wood leftover from a project because I never know if/when I'll need them for a future project. In this situation, I'm glad I am a bit of a wood hoarder because I was able to make these pumpkins with material I already had on hand.

Supplies:

4x4 wood

Saw

Dark brown stain

Orange paint

Sander

Sticks

Hot glue gun

Rafia

Step 1:

Cut your 4x4s down to size. There's no right or wrong size here, just eyeball it.

Step 2:

Stain the blocks. Any dark stain will work. I just used what I had on hand. This provides the aged look when you sand and distress the blocks.

Step 3:

Once the stain is dry, paint the blocks orange.

Step 4:

Once the paint is dry, lightly sand the blocks to desired level of distressing.

Step 5:

Add sticks to the top with hot glue. I just found these out in my yard. Then tie rafia around the sticks.

Happy Fall, y'all!
